Fire Alarms Installation

With over 6,000 household fires occurring in Scotland annually, it is of paramount importance to ensure the proper installation and continuous maintenance of smoke alarms. Since February 1, 2022, it is mandatory for every household in Scotland to have interconnected smoke alarms.

What the Law says...

The new standards established by the Scottish Government stipulate the following:

  1. Installation of one smoke alarm in the room most frequently used for general daytime activities.
  2. Placement of one smoke alarm in every passageway or hallway on each floor, including hallways and landings.
  3. Incorporation of a heat alarm in every kitchen area.
  4. All alarms must be ceiling-mounted and interconnected.

If your household includes a carbon-fueled appliance, such as a boiler, fire, non-electric heater, or flue, it is also obligatory to have a carbon monoxide detector. This detector does not need to be connected to the fire alarms.
